From Japan

Surprise!

Surprises are only as good as how much a person cares.

The Typical Chinese Treat

In America, you can get Chinese food. But it's different than what you get in Toronto. When you have it as takeout you get the nice paper boxes that you see in movies and after each meal you get the stereotypical Chinese fortune cookie:

No one's even sure if Chinese people invented the fortune cookie!

Some possibilities:
  • Chinese invent fortune cookie as alternative to moon cake

  • Japanese invents fortune cookie

  • More hearsay

    Detroit Airport

This week and last week have been long flights through Detroit. Here's some pics of the airport:

The airport is laid out as a really long tube so they have an train (Express Tram) to take you from one side to the other:

This is when I'm on the platform to get onto the tram:

    Here is the train coming!!

    Power Chamber

While in the theatre I took a picture of the power chamber from episode 3:

If you don't recall this scene, you were obviously sleeping and I don't blame you. The movie was filled with bad acting and cheezy lines. But like the Matrix series, you just have to watch it even if it does suck. You just won't go more than x number of times.

OK, for real, that is a picture of some lemons.

    Needing a Boost

After a string of nights of 4h of sleep, I needed a boost and one of my friends got me this:

I didn't think I'd finish it but in 30min it was all gone. I'm not sure I was more productive but I was awake at least.

    ROM Extension

Everything either grows or shrinks over time. As you may have already known, the Royal Ontario Museum is growing and creating a new extension full of Asian artifacts. Here's a picture of the construction in progress:

I'm not fond of the extensive use of steel and glass. I think the design will not work well with the existing museum structure. I remember looking at the small dioramas. But I guess anything can happen in the end. Hope it looks good. A little note for people who may not be aware, on Fridays after 5pm, there is free admission to the ROM

    Filming

When I went downtown this past weekend, we saw a crew filming in front of some UT buildings

They've transformed the scene to NYC with the license plates on the cars and taxis

    Here's the camera crew:

    Mickey Mouse

Today we caught a little mouse with our trap and let him go at school. He's pretty cute and has eyes as round and black like a lobster.

If it was white, it would be even more cute.

    A Surprise!

A friend of mine went to Japan for a week and came back with a surprise! Here it is:

It's a secret until Monday. Can you guess what it may be? For people who really DO know, please don't give it away.
I really wish I can go visit Japan one day. I hear so many good things about it. I have almost 2 weeks of vacation stored up so it could be a reality.

    Rewarded

After the many trips to Ohio I get rewards with this!

Now what does this mean and what do I get? Well I get special hotel cards when I live there but I really don't get anything. It's just a dumb interim step to Platnium where the real rewards start happening!!

    Restaurant Differences

As most of you know, McDonald's BBQ sauce is different in the US compared to what you get in Canada. US BBQ sauce tastes like BBQ while we get some sweet sauce. I've grown to like what we get in Canada. But apart from that, did you know that KFC is different on the other side of the border?
    Here's a pic:

I didn't take a close up picture because I'm sure the staff would think I'm crazy. Their menu resembles what you get at Popeyes with biscuits, wings, mashed potatoes, and pie. This is what I had for dinner that night:

Those are BBQ wings on the left side. They're like 5 for $2 if you get them as a side. Notice the coleslaw isn't the radioactive green we get in Canada. If I liked KFC more, I'd go more often but too bad it's bad for health.
